What Does Types of Betta Fish Mean?

I think it's alright to say that there are dozens of different types of Betta fish. However, have you thought about what it means to call them types in the first place? Basically put, the types we are looking for will be different in sex and size. And let's not forget about tail, fin shape, and colors.

The first thing I would like to talk about is Betta gender. Have you ever noticed how the males in most animal species have a little more color? If they were human, you would describe them as wearing bling. The vibrant colors that the males have are simply amazing. Females on the other hand are dull. This is because it is not the females who are looking to attract a mate. It's the males who have the job of getting the females attention. So naturally, they are better suited for attracting the opposite sex.

Let's talk about the different sizes of Betta fish. Most pet owners are familiar with the fish that are three inches long. However, most people don't know about the larger Betta's. These fish can be much larger. Betta akarensis can get up to five inches long. That's much bigger than your average pet Beta.

Next, we have what many people call different Beta species. Here's the deal. The truth is that different Betta species don't exist. There is only one species of Beta fish. These are the exact same fish that you can purchase at your local pet supply store. On one side of the scale, we have the splendens. These are the Betta's that were bred by us to sell to consumers. They are very vibrant and full of life. The other side of the scale is where you will find the wild Beta's. These guys are not full of color, and are generally boring to look at.

Tail and fin shape is next. So now that you understand that there is really only one species of Betta's let us talk about how to differentiate between them. These fish are only recognized for their tails and fins. Each Beta has a different tail. The most popular tail in the world would be the Veil tail. This tail acts like a veil in that it flows with the wind.

As you can see, there are many ways to differentiate between the many types of Beta fish. I hope this article has been helpful to you.
